An Underrated Fantasy Masterpiece Gets a Second Chance on Free Streaming in Two Weeks

At first glance, Dungeons & Dragons and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles might seem worlds apart. One is a foundational tabletop RPG from the 1970s defined by high-fantasy magic and mythical creatures, while the other emerged in the ’80s as a gritty comic about martial-arts-trained, anthropomorphic turtles. That said, I am fairly certain Donatello would be a die-hard D&D fan.

Beyond that connection, both franchises have recently seen incredible cinematic adaptations that will soon be available to stream entirely for free.

Starting June 1, both Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem will be joining the lineup on Pluto TV, the ad-supported free streaming platform.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, released in 2023, follows a charismatic band of misfits on a high-stakes quest for a legendary relic. It thoroughly impressed both longtime fans and critics by blending genuine heart with wit, successfully transposing the chaotic energy of a tabletop campaign into a heist-style narrative.

Meanwhile, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem breathed fresh life into the franchise by casting actual teenagers as the voices of the turtles, capturing the authentic, awkward energy of youth. Coupled with a distinct, sketchbook-inspired animation style that favors artistic expression over digital polish, it stands as a truly unique entry in the turtles’ cinematic legacy.

Honestly, watching the cast of Mutant Mayhem attempt a D&D campaign would be a blast. Until that happens, though, queuing these two standout films for a double feature—now accessible for free—is an excellent way to spend your time.
