The debate over the game’s “best girl” continues to this day.
The co-founder of CD Projekt RED recently recounted his memories of working on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The now-famous choice between Triss and Yennefer was not part of the original plan.
In the earlier entries of the franchise Yennefer was scarcely referenced, but in The Witcher 3 she arrives like a bolt out of the blue and complicates Geralt’s life.
Badowski described the creative reasoning — the Witcher 3 team felt the experience lacked a personal conflict:
At first there was no [choice between Triss and Yennefer], but at some point we realized the lack of a personal conflict (aside from Ciri) left something missing. The decision to include the choice between the two women came fairly late, yet it proved to be excellent — a brilliant decision.
Even now, online discussions persist about whom players should choose in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Triss or Yennefer — and Badowski has his own verdict:
I always choose Yennefer.
