Paradox Interactive has released the Thrones of Blood expansion for Triumph Studios’ strategy title Age of Wonders 4. Centered on vampiric themes, the pack introduces a singular vampire ruler, blood magic spells and menacing castles, giving players fresh ways to explore darker fantasies.
The expansion is available on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S and serves as the first DLC in Expansion Pass 3; two additional add-ons are slated for release in 2026.
Thrones of Blood unlocks new powers for vampire rulers, adds skill trees steeped in dark sorcery, replaces the Wizard Tower with a Vampire Castle, allows heroes to be turned into vampire thralls, and introduces ritual spells that consume slaves as arcane fuel. The pack also includes three new magic tomes, narrative quests about the Damned Souls and the origins of vampirism, new maps featuring the Lands of Darkness and Roses, Gothic Ancient Wonders, the corrupting Blood Glass energy, feral monsters — hordes of spined beasts, the Blood Worm and vampiric bats — plus fresh music, interface refinements and additional world settings.
Released alongside the expansion, the free Gargoyle Update enhances the tutorial, adds new forge and Pantheon options, and restructures the Dark culture to emphasize evil cults. The content sends players to distant reaches of the Astral Sea, where forgotten realms and forbidden powers await.
Expansion Pass 3 also includes the Cosmic Wanderer pack, which adds a new ruler, outfits, items and traits. The following DLCs — Rise from Ruin and Secrets of the Archmages — are scheduled for 2026 and will introduce new cultures, magic systems, story quests and realms.
