Genndy Tartakovsky had no plans to return to Primal after the season two finale — that is, until a vivid, cool, and undeniable idea for a continuation presented itself.
Adult Swim has announced that the third season premiere of Genndy Tartakovsky’s Primal will debut on January 11, 2026.
The story will once again focus on Spear, who is unexpectedly reborn — stripped of memory and humanity, he wanders a ruthless land, confronting echoes of his past, untamed wilderness, and lethal adversaries. The creators say the third season’s arc explores the concept of “finding humanity in death.”
Director Genndy Tartakovsky noted that the team has outdone themselves:
“Everything we established in season one we intensified in season two, and in season three we’ve pushed everything to the edge. The quality, the animation, the storytelling, the emotion — I don’t want to overstate it, but I can rarely remember being this proud of a project.”
Production is still handled by Cartoon Network Studios and La Cachette. The third season is slated to include 10 episodes.
