Distinguished American actress Mary Beth Hurt has passed away at the age of 79, according to media reports.

The cause of death was complications related to Alzheimer’s disease. Born in Iowa in 1946, Hurt began her prolific career in the mid-1970s. She was widely celebrated for her versatility, with standout performances in films such as The World According to Garp, The Age of Innocence, Six Degrees of Separation, The Family Man, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, and Young Adult, among many others.

In her personal life, Hurt was formerly married to actor William Hurt. Since 1982, she had been married to the renowned director and screenwriter Paul Schrader.
