Activision Has Lost Touch With Reality — Publisher Thanks Players for the “Wonderful Reception” of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7

Activision continues to turn a blind eye. The publisher is publicly thanking fans for the “warm reception” of Black Ops 7, even as the game faces harsh backlash.

A post on the official Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 page feels at odds with current feedback. Players have been vocal in their criticism: on Steam the game launched with only 42% positive reviews. Most complaints focus on the cooperative campaign. The picture on Metacritic is comparable — over the weekend users gave the game an average score of 1.7/10. Activision is acting as if there’s nothing wrong.

In its message the company congratulates Treyarch on an “incredible Black Ops 7” and claims that it saw “wonderful approval of the quality and depth of Black Ops 7’s gameplay” over the weekend.

One detail suggests this launch is faring worse than past entries. Activision typically released launch statistics for new Call of Duty titles quickly. This time the publisher hasn’t even disclosed how many players sampled Black Ops 7, which implies underwhelming numbers. By contrast, a year ago after Black Ops 6’s debut the company promptly touted the “biggest opening weekend in the series’ history.” Now Activision seems to be avoiding audience figures.
