A year ago, Phil Spencer was asked about the future of Xbox and his potential departure: here is what he said
Phil Spencer is scheduled to depart from Xbox in the summer of 2026 to facilitate Asha Sharma’s transition into the leadership role at Microsoft Gaming. This follows a January 2025 interview where content creator Destin questioned him regarding his retirement timeline and his ultimate vision for the Xbox ecosystem.
In February 2026, Spencer made his resignation official. Although rumors concerning his potential exit had been circulating online for some time, Microsoft had previously moved to dismiss such reports.
