51% of Marvel’s Wolverine Launch Sales Were Physical Copies
The statistics are unofficial and not particularly convenient for Sony itself.
About 35% of launch sales for Marvel’s Wolverine on PlayStation 5 in the United States were physical copies of the game. This data comes from the analytical company Ampere, whose statistics were referenced by The Game Business.
This figure is especially notable against the backdrop of Sony’s plans to stop producing game discs for the PS5. Meanwhile, the physical sales share for Wolverine in Europe was even higher at 51%, according to GSD data.

The figures vary noticeably depending on the country. In the United Kingdom, about two-thirds of Wolverine copies were sold in digital format, whereas in France, more than two-thirds of sales came from physical versions.
According to Ampere data, Marvel’s Wolverine became the second best-selling PS5 game in September, trailing only EA Sports FC 27. Approximately 2.16 million copies of the game were sold during the month.
Wolverine was not the only notable September release with a high share of physical sales. More than 45% of Silent Hill: Townfall copies were sold on disc. For The Blood of Dawnwalker on PS5, this figure reached 36%, and for Onimusha, it was 30%.
