38-Year-Old Classic Action RPG Receives Steam Remake
The Battle of Olympus is returning in an updated format.
Studio INFINITY recently revisited the action RPG The Battle of Olympus. The original version was released in 1988 for the Famicom in Japan and launched worldwide a few years later for the Nintendo Entertainment System. It never became a massive hit, but it gained a cult following over the years.
The game was developed by the husband-and-wife duo Reiko and Yukio Horimoto. In an interview, the developer talked about meeting his future wife and how they worked on the concept of their game together:
While we were making our first game, I met [the person who later became] my wife, and… well, we got married, and now she is my wife. We fell in love and wanted to make our own game together, so we discussed its concept for a long time. I like Greek myths and legends, so we decided to use them as the foundation for our game. And given those [romantic] circumstances, when we discussed the game, our mood influenced it.
In her message, Reiko shared that everything in The Battle of Olympus except for the sound was created by just two people: herself as the artist and Horimoto as the programmer:
For INFINITY, the company founded by Horimoto, [The Battle Of Olympus] is our very first original project. And thanks to this game, we got married. After that, our small studio INFINITY remained behind the scenes, helping develop over 80 games. This year, INFINITY is celebrating its 40th anniversary. To mark this major milestone, we decided to revive The Battle of Olympus with our own hands—the game where everything started for us. This final project will be the pinnacle of our career in game development. We were inspired to make this remake by videos on YouTube. Even though the game is very old, people still upload playthroughs, and those videos rack up a lot of views. I was genuinely amazed. And your comments moved me to tears.

You can add The Battle of Olympus to your Steam wishlist via this link. The release is scheduled for January 2027.
