“28 Years Later” actor hints at franchise threequel

Alfie Williams, star of the horror film 28 Years Later, recently shared a photo on social media depicting him practicing archery.

Glad to be back,

the actor captioned the post. Many fans have interpreted this as a cryptic hint regarding a potential third installment in the franchise. Danny Boyle’s 28 Years Later was released in 2025 to widespread critical acclaim, and its sequel, The Bone Temple, directed by Nia DaCosta, met with a similarly warm reception.

Despite this, the box office performance of the two films has been relatively modest: the first grossed $151 million worldwide against a $60 million budget, while the second brought in $58.5 million against costs of $63 million. It remains unclear who might helm a third entry, as Sony Pictures has yet to make an official announcement regarding a follow-up.

The 28 Years series is set in a version of Great Britain devastated by the “Rage Virus.” The story follows teenage protagonist Spike (Williams) as he struggles to survive in a brutal landscape teeming with the infected and the ruthless gang led by the notorious Jimmy (Jack O’Connell). The supporting cast includes Ralph Fiennes, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer, and Cillian Murphy, who starred in the original 28 Days Later.
