“Worst people on the planet”: Pathologic 3 writer speaks on Xbox release and working with Microsoft
Navigating the hurdles of releasing a title across various gaming platforms can be an incredibly grueling endeavor.
Following the recent PC debut of Pathologic 3 on Steam, the community was quick to inquire about potential console ports. Screenwriter Alexey Polyarinov addressed these concerns with some candid insights:
Regrettably, the Xbox situation is stalled. Our team tried to push through their certification process, but Microsoft—to put it diplomatically—are the most difficult people on the planet. PlayStation 5, however, is a different story; they’re projecting a release as early as January 23rd.
Shortly thereafter, Alexey clarified that the PS5 version would actually launch much sooner than anticipated:
I have some fantastic news: an hour ago, the team chat confirmed that the PS5 version is actually launching today.
It initially seemed as though the Xbox complications had been resolved as well:
I’ve just been informed that Xbox has finally greenlit the process, and the game is slated to arrive on their platform on January 23rd.
However, Alexey later noted that the specific Xbox arrival date is once again uncertain:
I feel like that guy from the meme who keeps opening the gates, only to be told it might not make the January 23rd date after all. Porting to that specific platform is proving to be a logistical nightmare, but the essential takeaway is that it definitely will launch on Xbox eventually.
