Team Ninja is overhauling the morale system for Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember due to the game’s shift to an open world, and player actions in combat will alter the surrounding environment.

Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember will feature an open world, prompting Team Ninja to rework the morale system from the first installment.

Producer Masakazu Hirayama explained that the previous system, which required capturing flags to raise morale, will change:

This time, with the open world, the morale system will be adjusted. Specific details cannot be disclosed yet; we can only say that the morale system will remain, but it will be different from before.

World exploration will also change. Player actions on the battlefield will affect unfolding events:

Changes on the battlefield will affect the outcome of the battle, causing changes in other parts of the environment as well. I think this will reduce monotony to some extent.

In structure, Wo Long 2 may resemble Nioh 3, where the developers preferred the term “open field” instead of “open world.” At the same time, it remains unclear whether the sequel will be closer to that approach or offer a full-fledged open world like Rise of the Ronin.

Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember will release in the first quarter of 2027 for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. The game will also launch on Game Pass on day one.
