Since the announcement of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the gaming community has been obsessed with deciphering the subtitle for the trilogy’s grand finale. While many fans speculated that “Reunion” would be a natural fit, that title had already been claimed by the 2022 Crisis Core remaster. Following the recent reveal at Summer Game Fest 2026, we now know the third chapter is officially titled Final Fantasy VII Revelation.

During the event, director Naoki Hamaguchi emphasized that while the upcoming game explores the theme of “resolve,” that concept was not the intended subtitle. “The focus on ‘resolve’ describes the inner state of our party members as they face their final stand,” Hamaguchi explained. “We want players to deeply empathize with these characters; the choices you make will shape their journey, ultimately creating a more personal, intimate experience.”

When pressed on why “Resolve” wasn’t chosen, Hamaguchi clarified that the shared “R-E” prefix was merely a happy accident. “We settled on ‘Revelation’ because it perfectly captures our narrative goals for this final installment,” he noted. The secrecy surrounding the title was immense—so much so that only a handful of senior developers knew the name before the official public unveiling at Summer Game Fest.

Given the weight of the title, it is natural to wonder if it draws inspiration from biblical themes. However, Hamaguchi steers the conversation toward the narrative payoff. “It’s less about theology and more about transparency,” he said. “Fans have spent years asking questions throughout Remake and Rebirth. This title is our promise that the mysteries will be unraveled—this is where everything concludes, and where every lingering question finds its answer.”

Final Fantasy VII Revelation is slated for a multiplatform launch in the first half of 2027, arriving simultaneously on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
