Weezer Serenades Venice Beach With Rooftop Acoustic Set Ahead of ‘The Gathering’ Arena Tour

Weezer took to the skies in Venice Beach this past Friday, delivering an intimate acoustic performance from a rooftop as part of a week-long celebration for their fans. The surprise session served as a high-profile kick-off for “The Gathering” arena tour and the announcement of their highly anticipated upcoming single.
Rivers Cuomo and his bandmates transformed the roof of the iconic Hinano Cafe into a makeshift stage, performing a nostalgic five-song set. The tracklist featured legendary anthems like “Undone – The Sweater Song,” “Buddy Holly,” “Island in the Sun,” and “Say It Ain’t So.” In a special moment for the local crowd, Bethany Cosentino of Best Coast joined the band for a guest rendition of “Go Away.”
The seaside gig was a focal point of “Weezer: The Gathering – Initiation Week,” a series of Los Angeles activations designed to engage their dedicated following. Other scheduled festivities include a specialized trivia night at Barney’s Beanery and a celebrity pickleball tournament on March 30, where fans can watch the band members showcase their skills on the court.
This promotional blitz follows the official unveiling of “The Gathering,” a massive 32-date North American trek. The tour is set to launch on September 8 in Sacramento and will conclude on October 24 in Los Angeles. Joining them on the road as special guests are alternative rock heavyweights The Shins and Silversun Pickups.
The tour will stop at premiere venues across the continent, including San Francisco’s Chase Center, Chicago’s United Center, and Boston’s TD Garden, along with several dates across Canada. Tickets are expected to move quickly, with artist presales beginning March 31.
The upcoming tour serves as a precursor to “Shine Again,” a new single debuting April 1. The track marks the first taste of Weezer’s 16th studio album, which will be their inaugural release under Reprise/Warner Records. This project follows a prolific period for the band, including 2021’s Van Weezer and the ambitious four-part SZNZ EP series released throughout 2022.
The band’s return comes at a significant crossroads of milestones. The year 2026 marks the 30th anniversary of the seminal Pinkerton, the 25th anniversary of the Green Album, and a decade since the release of their Grammy-nominated White Album.
Furthermore, Weezer is currently enjoying a surge in streaming popularity. Their 2014 collaboration with Cosentino, “Go Away,” has recently become a viral sensation on TikTok, catapulting back into the Daily Viral Top 40 and generating approximately one million streams every day.
Since their formation in Los Angeles in 1994, Weezer has remained a cornerstone of the alternative rock genre, selling over 35 million albums worldwide. Their 1994 self-titled debut, commonly known as the “Blue Album,” remains a definitive record of the era. More recently, the band completed their “Voyage to the Blue Planet” tour and shared the stage with Green Day and Fall Out Boy on the record-breaking Hella Mega Tour, which grossed over $92 million globally.
