Space Marine 2 Steam Workshop: rules for modded play
Saber Interactive and Focus Entertainment opened the official Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 Steam Workshop on July 30, 2026. The integration gives players a Steam-managed catalogue for mods and gives creators official publishing guidelines, but modded play is deliberately separated from the normal online environment.

Private lobbies replace public matchmaking
Starting a session with mods disconnects the game from public matchmaking and places the player in a private lobby. Friends can join through an invitation or a lobby code. A watermark in the top-right corner identifies the session as modded, so participants can distinguish it from the standard game.
Progress made with mods is kept separate from official progression. This is an intentional safeguard rather than a synchronization fault: altered rules, enemies or rewards cannot be carried back into the regular matchmaking ecosystem.
Installing and publishing Workshop mods
Players can browse the Workshop, subscribe to a project and let Steam handle its download and updates. Compatibility still depends on the individual mod and game version, so its description, dependencies and load-order notes should be checked before several projects are enabled together.
Creators must review the official modder guidelines and legal notice before publishing. Workshop availability does not waive restrictions on third-party assets, intellectual property or unsupported network modifications. The launch post also links to a technical getting-started guide.
Where the Workshop fits in the roadmap
The June community update described full Steam Workshop integration as the first stage of expanded mod support. The July release confirmed the PC Workshop implementation; those announcements did not confirm public matchmaking or Workshop support on other platforms.
