Voyage to the Ashlands: Transmog, Armor Dyeing & Mannequins
Ahoy, captains!
We are back with another sneak peek into what awaits you in Ashlands, the upcoming major expansion for Windrose! While our recent developer updates have focused extensively on naval vessels and making them truly your own, a magnificent ship naturally demands an equally striking captain.
Today, we are shifting our focus from the decks to the corsairs who command them. We are thrilled to unveil three major features arriving with the Ashlands update: armor transmogrification (transmog), armor coloration, and display mannequins.
Let’s dive right in and explore what these additions have to offer!
Dress to Impress: Armor Transmogrification
As you journey through the vast world of Windrose, you will encounter a diverse arsenal of protective gear, each boasting distinct aesthetics and defensive qualities. Naturally, you might find yourself torn between pieces that complement your combat style and those with visuals you simply cannot bear to part with.
Thanks to the new transmog system, compromising on style is officially a thing of the past. For those new to the concept, transmogrification allows you to alter your character’s visual appearance without altering your active equipment statistics. In short, you can wear optimal armor for its combat bonuses while projecting the appearance of an entirely different set.
Here is how it will function in practice:
We are introducing a dedicated set of five cosmetic armor slots directly into your character inventory panel: head, torso, arms, legs, and feet. Seamlessly toggle between your functional gear and your aesthetic preferences with just a click.

Your equipped gear will continue to supply all necessary defensive stats and passive benefits, while any garments placed within the cosmetic slots dictate your outward appearance. Eager to retain the heavy defense of end-game gear while sporting the rugged charm of a starter outfit? The choice is entirely yours.
Feel free to mix and match individual pieces to curate a completely unique ensemble. Should you choose to leave a cosmetic slot vacant, your character will simply default to displaying the underlying functional armor.
Best of all, your carefully crafted aesthetic won’t just be visible to you—fellow crewmates and rival sailors alike will behold your transmog outfit out on the open seas. Please note that this system applies strictly to armor pieces; weapons, rings, necklaces, and backpacks will remain unaffected.
A Spectrum of Plunder: Armor Dyeing
Redefining your silhouette is only half the battle. We are also introducing a comprehensive dyeing system, granting you unprecedented creative control over your pirate’s color palette. To begin your tailoring endeavors, simply construct the newly added Dyeing Station via your building menu.
At this station, you can meticulously recolor individual gear components using three distinct chromatic channels:
- Primary Hue: The dominant color covering the main body of the armor piece.
- Secondary Hue: A complementary shade applied to contrasting panels and undergarments.
- Accent Hue: Fine-tuned coloring reserved for buckles, trims, and intricate decorative engravings.
This multi-layered approach ensures you aren’t restricted to a monotonous single-tone look. Experiment freely to craft either a disciplined, uniform crew aesthetic or a flamboyant, eye-catching pirate lord persona.

Both standard functional gear and cosmetic transmog sets can be dyed, giving you total freedom over your presentation.
To streamline your creative process, the dyeing interface includes a dynamic preview window. Rotate your captain 360 degrees, inspect your color coordination from every conceivable angle, and perfect your look before finalizing the process.

Once you are completely satisfied, confirm your design and apply the changes using specific crafting materials. Please keep in mind that resource requirements are still being balanced and may evolve as development continues.
Crucially, custom color profiles are bound directly to the item data itself. Your bespoke color schemes will remain intact whether you stash the item in a chest, trade it, drop it in the dirt, or place it on public exhibition.
While certain legacy armor pieces may temporarily lack dedicated dye regions, we are eager to witness the brilliant combinations you will conjure up.
Curate Your Trophy Room: Display Mannequins
What good is a legendary collection of garments if it remains hidden inside a storage chest? Arriving alongside Ashlands, customizable mannequins will allow you to proudly showcase your favorite sets within your personal stronghold.

Outfit these figures to decorate your Captain’s quarters, meticulously organize your armor spoils, or construct an awe-inspiring armory. Both masculine and feminine mannequin variants will be available, ensuring your displays precisely reflect your vision.
Whether you wish to commemorate the relics of your early voyages or exhibit the hard-earned spoils of high-seas raids, these statues provide the ultimate stage. Best of all, because dyed items retain their customized palettes, your curated exhibits will look breathtakingly vibrant at all times.
Dressed for Legend
Ultimately, these updates are designed to grant you ultimate agency over your character’s identity:
- Transmogrification disconnects visual aesthetics from numerical statistics.
- Armor Dyeing enables deep, personalized color customisation.
- Mannequins provide a grandiose platform to display your hard-won gear collection.
As always, everything showcased today remains a work in progress. We will continue refining these systems ahead of the Ashlands release, relying heavily on your invaluable feedback to polish the experience.
That concludes today’s log, captains! Drop anchor in the comments and let us know your thoughts. Are you planning to craft the ultimate high-seas fashion statement, or will you focus on building a grand hall of trophies? May your winds be favorable and your wardrobes legendary!
Fashionably yours,
Kraken Express
