BTS commands the spotlight this New Music Friday with the highly anticipated debut of their latest studio effort, Arirang. Anchored by the infectious, dance-pop energy of its lead single “Swim,” the 14-track collection boasts a prestigious roster of collaborators, including Diplo, Kevin Parker of Tame Impala, Mike WiLL Made-It, and Ryan Tedder. To celebrate the launch, the group is scheduled to perform a massive comeback concert this Saturday at Gwanghwamun Square. While fans worldwide can tune into the event via Netflix, Big Hit Music noted that RM’s participation will be “partially limited” as he recovers from an ankle injury sustained during recent rehearsals.
Elsewhere in the hip-hop sphere, Mike WiLL Made-It has finally unveiled R3SET, marking his first solo studio venture in nine years. The expansive 15-track LP features a heavy-hitting lineup, with contributions from J. Cole, YoungBoy Never Broke Again, Monaleo, Karrahbooo, CeeLo Green, and Swae Lee. Meanwhile, country powerhouse Luke Combs maintains his prolific streak with The Way I Am. His sixth studio album features a soul-stirring duet with Alison Krauss and arrives less than a year after his 2024 project, Fathers & Sons.
This week’s release calendar also features diverse new projects from R&B songstress Ego Ella May (Good Intentions), country artist Morgan Evans (Steel Town), and Smile 2 breakout star Naomi Scott (F.I.G).
The singles circuit is equally electrified. Latto sent shockwaves through the industry with her sultry new cut, “Business & Pleasure,” utilizing the music video to announce her pregnancy alongside the news that her next album, Big Mama, will arrive on May 29. Chart-topper Yeat joined forces with Kylie Jenner—performing under the moniker King Kylie—for the gritty “Let King Tonka Talk,” while Coi Leray recruited YoungBoy Never Broke Again for their high-energy collaboration, “Better Than Yours.”
Pop enthusiasts have plenty to celebrate as well. Niall Horan officially kicked off his next era with “Dinner Party,” the sophisticated title track of his forthcoming fourth solo album. Paris Paloma offers a sharp critique of generative AI in her haunting new track “Miyazaki,” while Dermot Kennedy explores the complexities of heartbreak on the emotionally raw “Honest.” Not to be outdone, Lizzo returned with “Don’t Make Me Love U,” an anthemic track that pays homage to the legendary Tina Turner.
Rounding out the week, the R&B scene sees Coco Jones shining on the Shae Jacobs-produced “Luvagirl.” British quartet FLO keeps the heat turned up with their provocative single “Leak It,” and John Legend brings his signature smooth vocals to Ghanaian star Shatta Wale’s romantic Afro-dancehall fusion, “Aint’ Nobody.”
