Just days after the 2026 Summer Xbox Games Showcase, the team at One More Level—the studio behind Ghostrunner—has opted to adjust the release schedule for their highly anticipated first-person Soulslike, Valor Mortis. Originally slated for a September 24 debut on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, the title is moving to October 13 to steer clear of an exceptionally congested release window.
September is currently overflowing with major arrivals, including The Blood of Dawnwalker, Marvel’s Wolverine, Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, Control Resonant, Silent Hill: Townfall, and Onimusha: Way of the Sword. By shifting to mid-October, the developers hope to provide both their game and players’ wallets a much-needed reprieve.
“September has become incredibly packed with high-profile releases,” the studio noted in an official statement. “While we were excited about our original date, we want to ensure Valor Mortis gets the attention it deserves. This extra time allows us to polish the experience further while giving our community a little breathing room.”
One More Level is also encouraging fans to dive into the currently available Steam demo. The team is actively monitoring player feedback, which will directly inform their final adjustments leading into the new October launch.
The gaming calendar this autumn has become notoriously crowded as publishers frantically dodge the November 19 launch of Grand Theft Auto VI. With so many titles vying for space in September, it is likely that Valor Mortis is merely the first of several games to announce a shift in plans.
You can look forward to jumping into the world of Valor Mortis when it arrives on October 13. In the meantime, catch up on our hands-on preview to see why this intense combat experience has already generated such significant buzz.
