Tom Holland Spider-Man Replacement Hinted in Brand New Day
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is in theaters five years after Spidey’s last solo flick and months of speculation about Sadie Sink’s role. The film received a strong critical reception and is breaking box office records on its way to over $1 billion.
Before his fourth solo outing, star Tom Holland made curious comments about passing the baton to another actor and spider-themed hero. Many fans hope Miles Morales will make his live-action film debut as the next Spider-Man. However, Spider-Man: Brand New Day may include a cameo by a different spider hero who has been in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for nearly a decade.
Spoilers for Spider-Man: Brand New Day follow.
Tom Holland’s latest adventure features a mysterious foe who inhabits other people. Peter Parker seeks out Bruce Banner to help devise a device that inhibits super-powered abilities. Peter speaks to Bruce after a class at Empire State University, where a student asks a Reddit-pilled question about Thanos. Shannon Young Cho plays that student, credited simply as Cindy on IMDb. Spider-Man fans are convinced she is Cindy Moon, a Marvel comics character.
Cindy Moon has been a spider-themed hero in the comics since 2014 and is a Korean-American teenager. In the MCU, Cindy appeared as Peter’s classmate in Spider-Man: Homecoming, portrayed by Tiffany Espensen, who is of Chinese descent. Espensen reprised the role in Avengers: Infinity War and appeared in the extended edition of Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Who is Cindy Moon/Silk?

Peter Parker is not Marvel’s only spider-themed hero. Peni Parker, Spider-Woman, Spider-Gwen, and Miles Morales are prominent non-Peter Parker spider-folks. Cindy Moon debuted in 2014 using the superhero name Silk. Silk was bitten by the same radioactive spider as Peter and developed similar powers. While Peter uses mechanical web shooters, Silk produces organic webbing from her fingertips, much like Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in Brand New Day.
She appeared as a supporting character in The Amazing Spider-Man and event comics like Spider-Geddon while also headlining her own series. A TV series titled Silk: Spider Society was in development, but Amazon passed on moving forward in 2024. She will reportedly appear in the animated Spider-Women film if it ever comes to fruition. Cindy Moon was also teased at the end of Insomniac’s Spider-Man 2, pointing to a potential video game appearance.

Tom Holland is ready to say goodbye to Spider-Man
Marvel and Sony have not confirmed Spider-Man 5, leaving the webhead’s MCU future uncertain. Spider-Man will likely appear next in Avengers: Secret Wars unless he makes a surprise appearance in December’s Avengers: Doomsday.
Holland has previously discussed passing the torch to a new actor and character. He told Empire in June that he would love to help set up the next chapter for Miles Morales, Spider-Gwen, Spider-Woman, or someone similar. He noted that if he could do for someone else what Robert Downey Jr. did for him, he would be content swinging off into the sunset.
Many fans expect Miles Morales to take over, but Marvel has done little to set up his character outside of including his uncle Aaron Davis, played by Donald Glover, in Homecoming. Meanwhile, Cindy Moon has been present in the MCU since Homecoming.
Including Cindy Moon in multiple MCU films suggests Marvel has a plan for her beyond a background student role. Holland reiterated on the Happy Sad Confused podcast that he has a clear, exciting vision for passing the baton.
If that torch goes to Silk, previous actors might not reprise the role, or the continuity could shift. Marvel has recast roles before, swapping Don Cheadle in for Terrence Howard as James “Rhodey” Rhodes and recasting Scott Lang’s daughter Cassie twice before Kathryn Newton landed the role of Stature.

Marvel chief Kevin Feige told Variety that the only plan for Holland is to rest after a global tour with Zendaya. Victory lap aside, Holland may play Peter Parker for decades to come.
