‘To Infinity and Beyond’: How Taylor Swift Turned a Lifelong Love of ‘Toy Story’ Into Her Latest Project

For Taylor Swift, no creative feat seems out of reach. With her latest contribution to Toy Story 5—the heartfelt track “I Knew It, I Knew You”—she has brought a lifelong passion project to fruition. The stakes were high, but the result is nothing short of magical.

Following a deliberate trail of digital breadcrumbs, Swift recently delighted her fanbase by confirming the rumors: the original song, “I Knew It, I Knew You,” officially dropped at midnight, perfectly capturing the nostalgia surrounding the iconic franchise.

This melodic addition to the beloved series feels like a dream realized for the singer. To celebrate the milestone, Swift shared a touching throwback video of her younger self dressed as the cowgirl Jessie, a character who has been a centerpiece of the Toy Story universe since her debut in the second film.

“Writing this track felt like both a bold creative departure and a journey back to my roots,” Swift shared via social media. “Crafting a narrative for Jessie was a unique challenge that simultaneously felt instinctive. Having been a Toy Story fan since the age of five, being part of this adventure is truly a ‘to infinity and beyond’ moment.”

Swift expressed deep gratitude toward director Andrew Stanton for envisioning her voice for this cinematic installment. She also paid tribute to the legendary Randy Newman, acknowledging his role in building the series’ iconic sonic identity: “Randy established the musical world of Toy Story, and we are incredibly fortunate to exist within it.”

Joined by longtime creative partner and close friend Jack Antonoff, Swift channeled the spirited essence of Jessie into the production. “We wrote this with profound admiration for characters that taught us to laugh, ponder, and look far beyond our own backyards throughout our youth,” she added.

“I Knew It, I Knew You” marks the singer’s first release since her chart-topping 2025 album, The Life of a Showgirl. The track sets the stage for the film’s highly anticipated premiere on June 19, courtesy of Disney and Pixar.

As fans prepare to return to theaters, Toy Story 5 promises to explore the emotional complexities of Woody and Buzz Lightyear as they navigate a landscape where high-tech tablets threaten to capture their owner Bonnie’s attention.
