The Wiggles recently stirred up lighthearted internet discourse after an amusing radio appearance, where the beloved group admitted they were largely unfamiliar with the legendary Britpop band Oasis—even going so far as to mistake the Gallagher brothers for The Beatles.
The blunder occurred during a session on Nova 96.9’s Ricki-Lee & Tim, when the hosts challenged Anthony Field and his daughter Lucia—currently performing as the “Blue Wiggles”—to a musical trivia game. When the iconic opening chords of Oasis’ 1995 anthem “Wonderwall” played, Lucia openly confessed she didn’t recognize the track. In a playful nod to the historic Britpop rivalry, she added, “Controversially, I like Blur more… which is why I have no idea [what this is].”
The hosts were visibly shocked, with Tim Blackwell quipping, “No! That is going to go everywhere.”
Anthony Field subsequently shared his own hilarious anecdote regarding the band, recalling a trip to the hallowed Abbey Road Studios with his son. “I purchased a poster that I was certain depicted Paul McCartney and John Lennon,” Anthony explained. “My son looked at it and informed me, ‘Dad, those are the guys from Oasis.’ I am clearly completely out of the loop.” While he admitted his limited knowledge, Anthony did confirm he was at least familiar with the title of their signature hit.
This lighthearted confusion comes at a time when Oasis is enjoying a massive global resurgence following their highly anticipated reunion tour, which has sparked immense demand across multiple continents. As defining architects of 90s rock, the band boasts a legendary catalog including “Don’t Look Back in Anger” and “Champagne Supernova,” with “Wonderwall” remaining their standout success in the U.S.
For their part, The Wiggles continue to transcend their roots in children’s entertainment. By actively collaborating with diverse artists and capturing adult audiences through viral moments and major festival sets, they have successfully expanded their cultural footprint. The duo appeared on the broadcast to promote their latest single, “Sparkle.”
