The Avalanches Announce New Album Dedicated to Commercial Jingles, Proprietary Start-Up Sounds, and Long-Forgotten Audio Logos

Acclaimed Australian electronic music pioneers The Avalanches have officially announced that their eagerly awaited fourth studio album, No Bad Memories, will hit streaming platforms and store shelves on October 16.

According to an accompanying press release, the conceptual project delves into “the simultaneously magical and insidious ways that advertising and name-brand technology wrap themselves around our memories.” The record serves as a bittersweet homage to the enduring pull of vintage commercial jingles, proprietary software startup sounds, and long-forgotten audio logos.

The announcement arrives alongside a vibrant new single, “Can’t Get Over Losing You.” Driven by an infectious rhythm of crisp handclaps, driving kick drums, and shimmering synths, the track features velvety guest vocals from Louisiana-based artist and producer Portraits of Tracy.

This fresh release marks the fourth preview from No Bad Memories, following previously shared collaborations such as “Together” (featuring Nikki Nair, Jessy Lanza, and Prentiss), “Every Single Weekend” (featuring Jamie xx), and “Blue Shadows” (featuring Karen O). Out via Modular Recordings Pty Limited, the comprehensive LP will feature a sprawling tracklist of 31 songs, with the titles of the remaining 27 tracks still under wraps.

“It’s been fascinating as adults to reflect on that extraordinary era of marketing—the artistry, filmmaking, photography, and music—which ultimately was selling a completely unattainable dream,” the group reflected in a joint statement. “The way we value devices and products, the way we curate and represent ‘a life lived,’ the wonder of memory, and the profound power of nostalgia, particularly through sound. Revisiting childhood imagery and jingles made us realize just how deeply they stick with you. By taking these sound fragments straight from the heart of corporate culture and repurposing them into our own style of joyous pop music, we ultimately discovered the sonic universe of No Bad Memories.”

No Bad Memories marks the group’s first major body of work since their acclaimed 2020 LP, We Will Always Love You.
