The Veronicas Make Their Stunning ‘Like A Version’ Debut with sombr Cover
Renowned Australian pop duo The Veronicas have finally stepped into the triple j studios for their long-awaited installment of Like A Version, delivering a hauntingly beautiful rendition of sombr’s track, “12 to 12.”
Twin sisters Jess and Lisa Origliasso recorded the session as part of the radio station’s special expanded Like A Version month. This initiative features a surge of additional performances released throughout the week, supplementing the program’s iconic Friday morning slot.
Reflecting on their selection, the duo praised sombr’s ability to weave compelling narratives through song. They shared that “12 to 12” immediately grabbed their attention, describing it as an exceptional example of modern pop songwriting.
The sisters admitted to becoming “obsessed” with the track after their first listen, specifically highlighting its intricate structure and infectious melody as evidence of superior pop craftsmanship. With nearly two decades of experience as songwriters themselves, the pair noted their deep appreciation for artists who possess a natural instinct for building such resonant compositions.
In addition to the cover, The Veronicas treated listeners to a high-energy performance of their 2007 global breakout hit, “Untouched.” Originally featured on their sophomore album Hook Me Up, the single has experienced a massive cultural resurgence in recent years, fueled by viral moments across social media and streaming services.
This appearance represents the first time the Brisbane-born artists have officially performed in the Like A Version studio—a significant milestone for a duo that has been a pillar of the Australian music industry for almost twenty years.
Their session arrives during a high-profile run for the series, which recently saw Baltimore hardcore outfit Turnstile kick off the month with a moving tribute to the late Mani, covering the Stone Roses’ classic “I Wanna Be Adored.”
The star-studded schedule for the remainder of the month includes appearances from Baker Boy, Lucy Dacus, Kevin Abstract, Oklou, MAY-A, and Inkabee. Over its storied history, Like A Version has cemented itself as a cultural institution, challenging artists to reimagine beloved tracks in unexpected ways.
