It is a rare feat for melodies centered on waste disposal and rodent anatomy to become genuine earworms, yet Mewgenics has achieved exactly that. If you have been hopelessly humming along to the quirky tunes of this feline-centric roguelike since its Steam debut, you are certainly not alone. The Mewgenics score is poised to maintain its grip on the community’s collective consciousness, as the full discography has officially arrived on Spotify.

This wonderfully irreverent soundscape is the brainchild of Ridiculon, the talented duo renowned for their iconic work on The Binding of Isaac. While Spotify has yet to integrate the official lyrics, the compositions are so infectious that most dedicated players likely have every eccentric syllable committed to memory already.

Admittedly, during my initial hours with the game, the juvenile lyrics and distinct Newgrounds-inspired aesthetic felt a bit jarring. However, after sinking 114 hours into the experience, my perspective has shifted entirely. The soundtrack remains remarkably fresh, with each playback revealing subtle layers and clever nuances. It is truly impressive that, even deep into the endgame, Mewgenics continues to unveil new tracks that are absolute standouts. While much of the humor is intentionally low-brow, the game also displays surprising artistic range; the ethereal compositions accompanying the space-themed environments are some of the most sophisticated pieces of contemporary video game music I have heard.

I suspect this chaotic, unhinged OST will eventually be hailed as a cult classic. I am holding out hope for an elaborate live performance at a future industry event, perhaps during the musical segments of The Game Awards. For those still navigating the campaign, I recommend sticking to the tracks you have already discovered organically to preserve the intended impact of the game’s surprises. Though, based on the current streaming metrics, it appears most fans are content to simply keep the “Eating Rats” song on an endless loop.
