A new animated series brings Critical Role’s second Dungeons & Dragons campaign to the screen.
On November 19, Prime Video premiered the animated series “The Mighty Nein,” an adaptation of the second campaign from the popular Critical Role Dungeons & Dragons show.
Set two decades after The Legend of Vox Machina, the story follows a fresh band of outcasts and fugitives who must come together when a powerful artifact known as the Beacon falls into the wrong hands. The group must learn to cooperate if they hope to save the kingdom and prevent the very fabric of reality from unraveling.
At the time of publication the series holds a 100% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes and a 96% audience rating. Reviewers praise the distinctive character portrayals, polished animation, and the emotional depth that suits a Dungeons & Dragons adaptation.
That said, some reviews mention pacing issues in places — a byproduct of the creators’ choice to spend extra time on character development and to avoid the flaws seen in The Legend of Vox Machina. Not all viewers, however, have embraced the more measured tempo.
Series regulars from Critical Role — Laura Bailey, Taliesin Jaffe, Ashley Johnson, Matthew Mercer, and Liam O’Brien — reprise their roles.
Prime Video currently hosts the first three of eight episodes, with new installments arriving weekly. Amazon renewed The Mighty Nein for a second season before the premiere; further details about it have not yet been disclosed.
