
As the prestigious Music Awards Japan (MAJ) ceremony approaches, local excitement has reached a fever pitch. Organizers have officially unveiled the star-studded lineup for the Grand Ceremony, featuring a historic appearance by global sensation Sam Smith, who makes his triumphant return to Japan as the gala’s first-ever international guest performer.
The night promises an electrifying showcase of talent, with Artist of the Year nominees—including Fujii Kaze, HANA, Sakanaction, and Kenshi Yonezu—leading the roster. Joining them are MISAMO (the celebrated trio from TWICE), CHANMINA, and Hitsujibungaku. Furthermore, the legendary Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra will curate a high-energy, exclusive set featuring powerhouse collaborations with LiSA, TAKUMA (10-FEET), and AiNA THE END.

Produced by pioneers Kan Takagi and ZEEBRA alongside modern torchbearer YZERR, the show traces the evolution of the genre from its 1980s roots to its current status as a cultural force. The stage will feature an incredible cross-generational lineup, pairing veterans like RHYMESTER and King Giddra with contemporary stars like STUTS, PUNPEE, and T-Pablow.
A TRIBUTE TO EIICHI OHTAKI — SYMBOL OF MUSIC AWARDS JAPAN 2026

Following last year’s recognition of Yellow Magic Orchestra, the 2026 “Symbol of MAJ” honor goes to the late, iconic songwriter Eiichi Ohtaki. This tribute celebrates the architect of Japanese pop classics such as “Kimi wa Tennenshoku.” Utilizing archival vocal recordings, the evening will feature moving live interpretations by close collaborators, including Ginji Ito, Minako Yoshida, and Shigeru Suzuki, offering a rare, intimate connection to the roots of modern J-Pop.

Designed to amplify female voices in the industry, this three-hour showcase highlights artists breaking boundaries both domestically and abroad. The bill features the high-octane performances of ATARASHII GAKKO!, the cutting-edge rhymes of J-hip-hop queen Awich, the atmospheric rock of Hitsujibungaku, and the rising influence of LANA.
The main awards presentation will be held on Saturday, June 13, across SGC Hall Ariake and TOYOTA ARENA TOKYO. For those unable to attend in person, the ceremony will be broadcast live via YouTube.
