While it may seem impossible to eclipse, one of the standout thrillers of 2026 has made a bold attempt by transposing that same high-stakes, caregiver-as-captor dynamic to a remote, deserted island. Now, that film has finally arrived on streaming platforms.

“I admire both films immensely; they are definitive classics,” Raimi remarked. “However, I made a conscious effort to avoid rewatching them during production. Whenever I detected thematic echoes, I deliberately veered in a different direction. It was a challenging approach, but essential to distinguish the work from such monumental predecessors.”
Raimi further noted that earlier drafts contained explicit homages to these films, which he ultimately excised. This creative choice served the narrative well, preventing the story from feeling like a derivative pastiche. Instead, Raimi’s singular directorial voice ensures the film retains its own identity, standing on its own merits.
While Send Help is not a direct homage to Stephen King, his influence permeates the production. Raimi’s genius lies in his knack for taking well-worn tropes—whether found in Spider-Man or domestic thrillers—and reinventing them through a fresh, inventive lens. This consistency is exactly why he remains a titan of industry and why Send Help is a vital addition to the streaming landscape on Hulu.
