The Best New Thriller on Hulu: Where Stephen King Meets Cast Away

One could debate the merits of various Stephen King adaptations for a lifetime. Whether you find yourself drawn to the visceral terror in It, the creeping psychological dread of The Shining, or the unsettling nature of Children of the Corn, there is a cinematic entry to satisfy any genre enthusiast. For my money, however, the slow-burn psychological thriller Misery stands unrivaled, transforming a claustrophobic, two-character dynamic into an enduring nightmare.

Anchored by powerhouse performances from Kathy Bates and James Caan, and directed with understated precision by Rob Reiner, Misery remains a pinnacle of the genre. While it may seem impossible to eclipse, one of the standout thrillers of 2026 has made a bold attempt by transposing that same high-stakes, caregiver-as-captor dynamic to a remote, deserted island. Now, that film has finally arrived on streaming platforms.

Send Help, the latest project from iconic director Sam Raimi, is officially streaming on Hulu. Here is why this masterful blend of isolated survivalism and psychological suspense deserves a spot on your watchlist.
