Taylor Swift Unveils Acoustic and Piano Renditions of “Toy Story 5” Anthem

Taylor Swift has officially expanded the sonic landscape of her latest Toy Story 5 contribution, “I Knew It, I Knew You,” by treating fans to intimate acoustic and piano-driven interpretations of the track.
Following the surprise announcement on her Instagram Stories this past Sunday (June 7), the pop icon made both stripped-back versions available for immediate digital download. Listeners can find the tracks on Apple Music or opt for a direct purchase via her official merchandise store.
The original studio recording, which debuted on June 5, serves as a cornerstone of the Toy Story 5 soundtrack. Fans can look forward to the film’s wide release on June 19, with the full accompanying album arriving the very same day.
While Swift first shared news of her involvement in the project on June 1—initially offering the alternate takes exclusively as physical CD singles—these digital releases offer wider accessibility for her global audience.
The lyrics, framed through the perspective of Jessie the cowgirl, capture a poignant reflection on her history with Woody, while simultaneously exploring her blossoming connection with Buzz Lightyear as the ensemble faces a new, uncharted chapter of their journey.
Reflecting on the creative process, Swift shared her excitement on X (formerly Twitter): “Writing this song felt like a musical departure and coming home at the same time. Creating something for Jessie was a new challenge and also felt like second nature all at once. And being a Toy Story kid from the age of 5 until now… is an adventure I plan to be on, to infinity and beyond.”
This evocative ballad marks another successful collaboration between Swift and her frequent production partner, Jack Antonoff. The film’s director, Andrew Stanton, lauded the song’s impact, noting, “It’s incredible just how meaningful it’s been having Taylor write and perform this song.”
As the legendary franchise returns to the big screen, stars Tom Hanks and Tim Allen reprise their roles as Woody and Buzz, joined by the returning Joan Cusack as Jessie. The narrative shifts toward a contemporary struggle, as our favorite toys navigate a world increasingly dominated by digital screens and modern technology.
