5 Seconds of Summer delivered an unforgettable presence at Lollapalooza, treating fans to a surprise collaboration with sombr on stage alongside a high-octane rendition of a Katy Perry timeless anthem during their own powerhouse performance.

In footage captured by Billboard on opening day at Grant Park on Thursday (July 30), band members Luke Hemmings, Michael Clifford, Calum Hood, and Ashton Irwin lent their musical talents to support the “Back to Friends” singer. Together, they delivered a fresh vocal spin on “She Looks So Perfect,” the defining 2014 breakout smash from 5SOS that climbed to No. 24 on the Billboard Hot 100.

“Lollapalooza was absolutely unreal,” sombr shared afterward via his Instagram Story. “Chicago, I have so much love for you.”

The group’s guest appearance during sombr’s set followed closely on the heels of their own triumphant headline-worthy showcase on the main stage. During their slot, the quartet reimagined Perry’s nostalgic pop masterpiece “Teenage Dream” as an electrifying rock anthem. “You make me feel like I’m living a teenage dream, the way you turn me on,” Hemmings crooned to a rapturous, capacity audience. “I can’t sleep, let’s run away and don’t ever look back.”

These standout moments capped off a stellar opening night for the festival, which was anchored by a magnetic closing performance from Lorde. The weekend-long celebration features a star-studded lineup including Tate McRae, Charli xcx, Olivia Dean, John Summit, JENNIE, and numerous others.

5SOS arrives at the festival hot on the heels of their latest studio album, Everyone’s a Star!, which debuted at No. 6 on the Billboard 200—adding another triumph to a chart history that includes three previous No. 1 records: 5 Seconds Of Summer (2014), Sounds Good Feels Good (2015), and Youngblood (2018).
