Taylor Swift Announces New Single Patient Zero

Taylor Swift will release her new single, “Patient Zero,” on September 25.

The pop star announced the upcoming track on Tuesday (Sept. 22) following a two-hour countdown on her website. Swift shared the single’s artwork on Instagram, featuring a photo of herself in a black dress leaning against a concrete wall, and wrote on Instagram, “I’ve been impatiently waiting to tell you that my brand new single ‘Patient Zero’ will be out on September 25 (!!!!!!!!!!!!)”

Preorders are open now on Swift’s website for the track, as well as an acoustic version and a piano version. Each version features an alternative cover, with the piano version showing Swift posing thoughtfully while displaying her engagement ring.

The Friday (Sept. 25) release follows Swift’s album The Life of a Showgirl, which dropped last October. That album spent 12 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and generated two No. 1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100: “The Fate of Ophelia” and “Opalite.”

Swift previously teased “Patient Zero” by replacing the Os in her Instagram bio and in the lyrics for Showgirl on Apple Music with zeros. Earlier, she included hints in a Law & Order: SVU parody broadcast during the 2026 Emmys, looking directly into the camera to say, “Saccharide. Aries. From the Vineyard. North or South.”
