The Metropolitan Police have confirmed the tragic passing of Grammy-winning songwriter Talay Riley, who was killed in a stabbing incident in London.

Known by his birth name, Mark Orabiyi, the 35-year-old musician was a celebrated talent with an extensive list of credits, having collaborated with global superstars including Britney Spears, Dua Lipa, Khalid, H.E.R., and the girl group FLO.

Authorities reported that Orabiyi was discovered with fatal stab wounds at a residence in Silvertown, east London, on the morning of Friday, June 5. He was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital. A second victim, a man in his 20s, also sustained stab wounds; however, police have confirmed that his condition is not life-threatening.

Three individuals have been detained in connection with the murder. While a 27-year-old man was released on bail pending further investigation, a 24-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman were released without further action.

Detective Chief Inspector Joanna Yorke stated, “Our investigation is moving swiftly. We are urgently appealing to anyone who was in the vicinity during the incident to come forward and assist our officers.”

Yorke added, “We are particularly eager to review any CCTV, doorbell, or personal footage captured on the morning of the attack that could provide critical insight into the events that unfolded.”

Throughout his career, Riley left a significant mark on the charts, contributing to tracks such as Britney Spears’ “Clumsy” (2016), Dua Lipa’s “Last Dance” (2016), Chris Brown’s “Zero,” and Khalid’s massive hit “Young Dumb & Broke” (2017).

Alongside his brother, Michael Orabiyi—professionally known as producer Scribz Riley—he helped pen “Lights On” for H.E.R.’s 2017 self-titled album. The project eventually earned the Grammy Award for Best R&B Album and received a nomination for Album of the Year.

Scribz Riley shared a poignant tribute to his brother on Instagram, writing, “You inspired so many. Your legacy will endure through your music, your family, your friends, and everyone fortunate enough to have crossed your path. Thank you to everyone who has reached out; we truly value your support. Despite all your incredible achievements, you were taken from us far too soon. Until we meet again.”

The music community has begun to express its grief, with artists like Kehlani sharing support with “big hugs,” while Khalid extended his deepest condolences, posting, “I’m so sorry—sending so much love.”
