“There was a discussion about it, but ultimately, that final interaction with Superman felt more impactful as part of the narrative itself,” Gillespie shared with Polygon.

Personally, I believe a quick glimpse at a looming threat—perhaps a nod to the Lex Luthor mech suit—would have been a fun nod to the upcoming Man of Tomorrow. Clearly, however, James Gunn is playing his cards close to the vest for now.

Supergirl’s finale: What’s next?

The conclusion of Supergirl is refreshingly straightforward. Having exacted revenge on Krem of the Yellow Hills and liberated his captives, Supergirl and her faithful companion, Krypto, return to Earth. The protagonist has evidently moved past her period of wandering and is ready to settle into life in Metropolis, committed to upholding justice.

Looking ahead, Alcock’s iteration of the character is locked in for Gunn’s next project, Man of Tomorrow. While that film appears to be primarily focused on Superman and Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) grappling with a threat from the cybernetic entity known as Brainiac (Lars Eidinger), the subsequent chapter in the DCU seems poised to return the spotlight to Alcock.

“Supergirl was filmed in London, as was Clayface and the start of Batman 2,” executive producer Lars P. Winther explained to The Hollywood Reporter. “In Man of Tomorrow, she is moving past her wilder days. The story brings her closer to her cousin and settles her firmly on Earth. It’s a grounded evolution. We have a clear trajectory for her, and she remains a cornerstone for the movie that follows.”
