Supergirl Director Explains Why the DCU Film Lacks a Post-Credits Scene

Now, with director Craig Gillespie’s follow-up, <em><a href="https://www.polygon.com/supergirl-review-james-gunn-formula-dcu/" target="_blank">Supergirl</a></em>, fans are naturally asking if there’s a similar bonus sequence. <p>According to Gillespie, an early draft did feature a post-credits tag, but he decided to integrate that material directly into the film's final act. The sequence centers on a reunion between Supergirl (Milly Alcock) and her cousin, Superman (David Corenswet), marking her return to Earth and her resolution to embrace her role as a hero.</p>

<p>"There was a discussion about it, but ultimately, that final interaction with Superman felt more impactful as part of the narrative itself," Gillespie shared with Polygon.</p>

<p>Personally, I believe a quick glimpse at a looming threat—perhaps a nod to the <a href="https://www.polygon.com/superman-man-of-tomorrow-lex-luthor-warsuit-design-first-look/" target="_blank">Lex Luthor mech suit</a>—would have been a fun nod to the upcoming <em><a href="https://www.polygon.com/superman-ii-set-to-continue-a-bizarre-dc-comics-tradition/" target="_blank">Man of Tomorrow</a></em>. Clearly, however, James Gunn is playing his cards close to the vest for now.</p>

<h2 id="supergirl-s-ending-explained">Supergirl's finale: What's next?</h2>

<p>The conclusion of <em>Supergirl</em> is refreshingly straightforward. Having exacted revenge on Krem of the Yellow Hills and liberated his captives, Supergirl and her faithful companion, Krypto, return to Earth. The protagonist has evidently moved past her period of wandering and is ready to settle into life in Metropolis, committed to upholding justice.</p>

<p>Looking ahead, Alcock’s iteration of the character is locked in for Gunn’s next project, <em>Man of Tomorrow</em>. While that film appears to be primarily focused on Superman and Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) grappling with a threat from the cybernetic entity known as Brainiac (Lars Eidinger), the subsequent chapter in the DCU seems poised to return the spotlight to Alcock.</p>
