Supercell Announces Upcoming Changes to Brawl Stars and New Buff System

Instead of adding a 12th power level for characters, the game will introduce a new enhancement system.

Supercell has announced a substantial update for Brawl Stars — the most significant progression overhaul since the Hypercharge mechanic was introduced.

“Buffs” are unique modifiers that strengthen brawlers’ abilities without introducing extra buttons or complicated mechanics. Developers say this will help rebalance certain fighters and increase the variety of their playstyles. Each brawler will receive three enhancements: one for their gadget, one for their Hypercharge, and one for their Star Power.

Buffs will be obtained via a “Vending Machine” that guarantees one enhancement for 1,000 Coins and 2,000 Power Points. The machine’s first use will be free. Later on, buffs will also be offered for Gems and through special bundles.

Supercell stresses that rolling out the mechanic will take time. Buffs are more complex to develop than Hypercharges, so the first wave will include only six brawlers, among them Colt and Spike.

Enhancements will replace epic and mythic gear, and players will be refunded the resources they invested. Some gadgets will also be redesigned.

In addition to the buff system, Supercell will introduce a new type of chest and overhaul the Battle Pass structure to make rewards more meaningful.

The company notes that all of these changes are still in development and could be altered before release. Supercell will share more details during the next Brawl Talk, scheduled for December 13.
