Steam Machine launched successfully in Japan. Buyers purchased all four versions of the Valve gaming PC within three hours of the release, despite a price tag exceeding $1000.
Sales began on June 23 through Komodo Station. This partner distributes Valve hardware across Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.
Unlike in Europe and North America where customers rely on pre-order systems, the Japanese market offered the hardware for direct sale. Every configuration showed as sold out after three hours.
Valve did not disclose the size of the initial shipment. Consequently, the rapid sell-out could reflect either high consumer demand or a limited number of available units.
