Star Citizen to Add Crafting System — Players Will Be Able to Craft Weapons and Armor

In the coming months Star Citizen will receive a staged crafting system. The initial release will let players manufacture weapons and armor using a new device called the Fabricator.

The system will factor in material quality, resource management, and blueprints that players can obtain during missions. It will form part of a refreshed progression system with an improved interface and a clearer resource hierarchy.

At CitizenCon 2025 the developers shared more details: the feature will be rolled out in multiple phases, starting with items. They want players to become familiar with the new tools and the updated inventory.

Players will be able to purchase the Fabricator in shops, move it with cargo lifts, use it in hangars, and operate it with a grav-push. The initial test will be limited and will expand over time. Crafting outcomes will depend on material quality — higher-grade resources yield superior stats.

“The first crafting release is focused on weapons and armor. It’s a core element of progression in Star Citizen,” said designer Rick Porter.

According to senior systems designer Declan Holmes, the new mechanics will demonstrate how items produced from different materials can outperform store-bought equivalents. Programmer Jacob Taylor added that the legacy recycling process is still in use for now, but material quality already influences results.

A test version is expected to appear before the end of the year.
