Sony Further Diminishes Hopes for a Bloodborne Remake
Few titles in gaming history have inspired as much longing for a remake as Bloodborne, FromSoftware’s 2015 masterpiece. While it shares DNA with the Dark Souls series, this Victorian-gothic nightmare shifted the focus toward relentless aggression, favoring dual-wielding and quick-stepping over the safety of shields. To this day, it is widely regarded as one of the most cohesive and atmospheric experiences ever crafted by the legendary studio.
It has been over a decade since the Hunt began, and after a full console transition, the community’s calls for a technical overhaul have reached a fever pitch. A proper remaster or remake would finally break the game’s 30fps shackles, introducing native 4K resolution and utilizing modern SSDs to eliminate the original’s notoriously long loading screens. While resourceful modders like Lance McDonald have successfully implemented unofficial 60fps patches, and emulation projects like ShadPS4 are pushing the boundaries on PC, fans are still waiting for Sony to deliver an official solution.
However, recent industry developments suggest those dreams may be fading. Sony is reportedly shutting down Bluepoint Games, the elite reconstruction specialists behind the stunning Demon’s Souls remake for the PlayStation 5, as well as the Shadow of the Colossus and Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection revivals. This closure is set to result in roughly 70 layoffs, marking a somber end for a studio known for its technical wizardry.
Given their flawless track record, Bluepoint was the industry’s logical choice to lead a Bloodborne project. Their work on Demon’s Souls proved they possessed the rare ability to modernize a “Soulsborne” title without sacrificing the punishing difficulty or the delicate atmosphere that defines the genre.
BREAKING: PlayStation is shutting down Bluepoint Games, the studio responsible for modern remakes of classic games such as Demon’s Souls and Shadow of the Colossus, Bloomberg News has learned. A shocking end for a well-respected studio.

Following their contributions to God of War Ragnarok, Bluepoint was reportedly developing a live-service entry in the God of War universe. However, that project was reportedly canceled in 2025. Per Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, the studio spent its final year pitching new concepts that failed to gain traction. Regrettably, a return to Yharnam was never part of that roadmap.
While other developers could technically step in, none carry the same “gold standard” prestige as Bluepoint. Studios like QLOC and Virtuos have experience with Dark Souls Remastered, and Bloober Team recently proved their mettle with Silent Hill 2. Other names like Toys For Bob or the prolific Aspyr remain possibilities, though their track records vary significantly when it comes to high-fidelity remakes.
Despite the silence from Sony and FromSoftware, Hidetaka Miyazaki remains aware of the project’s massive demand. In previous interviews, he has expressed deep affection for the title and the enduring passion of its fanbase. Yet, with the industry’s premier remake studio no longer in the picture, the likelihood of a Bloodborne revival feels more uncertain than ever—a bitter pill for the community to swallow.
