During today’s celebratory livestream marking the 35th anniversary of Sonic the Hedgehog, Sega dropped a major surprise: Sonic Frontiers is officially racing onto the Switch 2, and it is available starting today. This Definitive Edition revitalizes the 2022 open-zone adventure, packing in every piece of post-launch DLC and a suite of technical enhancements.
While fans may have already experienced the game on the original Switch, this Definitive Edition on Switch 2 leverages the console’s hardware to deliver a noticeably smoother and more visually polished performance. Beyond the technical polish, the package includes the comprehensive The Final Horizon update. This expansion introduces a brand-new narrative arc, fresh challenges, a dedicated photo mode, and the ability to play as fan-favorite characters Tails, Knuckles, and Amy.
Additionally, this collection bundles the Sonic’s Birthday Bash and Sights, Sounds, and Speeds updates, along with a digital art book and a curated mini-soundtrack.
Sonic Frontiers Definitive Edition is available now on the Switch 2 eShop for $49.99. According to the storefront listing, there is currently no transition or upgrade path for users who purchased the original version on the previous generation hardware.
