Italian studio Smallthing Studios is gearing up to release Simon the Sorcerer Origins — a prequel to the cult 1990s adventure series.
The game is slated to launch on October 28, 2025 for PC, Mac, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch. The project became possible after the original creators approved the concept and entrusted Smallthing Studios with expanding the franchise.
According to founder and game director Massimiliano Calamai and lead designer Fabrizio Rizzo, Simon the Sorcerer Origins will act as a new entry point for the series. The prequel fuses the original’s charm with contemporary design: hand-drawn visuals, expansive dialogue, and the option to play using classic point-and-click controls or a modern direct-control scheme. The story takes place shortly before the events of the first game and reveals a younger Simon from a different angle — still cheeky, but more emotionally complex and mature.
Smallthing Studios also unveiled several future projects: a remake of the original Simon the Sorcerer; Sword of Sodan 2, a continuation of the 1988 fighting classic; the adventure Where the River Dies, in which four protagonists search for the root of a spreading evil; and 14:18, a psychological horror infused with biblical themes. All titles are planned for PC, Mac, PlayStation, Xbox and Switch.
