Silent Hill: Townfall Officially Confirms Five Different Endings, Just Like Silent Hill f
Multiple conclusions have long been a hallmark of Konami’s legendary Silent Hill franchise. The widely celebrated Silent Hill f featured five distinct paths, including a characteristically comedic send-off, while the 2024 remake of Silent Hill 2 boasted a staggering eight variations, with five locked behind subsequent playthroughs. The upcoming entry, Silent Hill: Townfall by Screen Burn Interactive, faithfully continues this tradition. During a recent hands-on preview event in Los Angeles, we confirmed that the psychological thriller will indeed include five unique endings determined entirely by your decisions throughout the campaign.

Navigating the demo, I encountered several high-stakes dilemmas that immediately called the game's structural rigidity into question. These binary prompts—such as choosing whether to unlock a door or inspect a mysterious container—were stamped with an ominous crimson selection marker. They induced that familiar, lingering unease famously triggered by titles like Pentiment or The Outer Worlds, where a quiet reminder flashes across the screen: "This will be remembered."

While Screen Burn writer and director Jon McKellan sidestepped a direct inquiry regarding strictly branching narratives, he shed light on the subtle philosophy governing player agency.

“I’d characterize the game’s design as a sort of ‘wide linear’ experience,” McKellan clarifies. “You are certainly guided along a definitive narrative path, but there is organic room for deviation. Depending on your playstyle and the sequence in which you tackle objectives, certain chapters can be approached out of order. It gives the progression breathing room so it rarely feels entirely on-rails.”

Are those menacing binary dilemmas merely smoke and mirrors? Based on McKellan’s remarks, the true turning points in the narrative will not be transparent on an initial playthrough.

“A multitude of subtle factors influence the conclusion you receive,” McKellan notes. “Nothing is reduced to a simple A/B choice. Instead, it observes how you naturally inhabit the role of Simon. Your minute actions, your immediate tactical decisions, and your behavioral tendencies collectively signal to us—and to the protagonist’s psychological state—who you are as a player. It is an intricate web of nuances where every single action matters.”

Regrettably, we must wait a few more weeks to determine if a mischievous Shiba Inu is secretly orchestrating the chaos in Silent Hill: Townfall. The psychological horror title launches for Windows PC and PlayStation 5 on September 24.
