Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket is set to debut its latest expansion, “Mega Shine,” on March 25. This landmark update introduces Mega Shiny Pokémon to the digital platform for the first time, with the formidable Mega Charizard X and Mega Gengar serving as the set’s headline attractions.
Over the past year, Pokémon TCG Pocket has progressively diversified its catalog of high-rarity collectibles. Shiny Pokémon made their initial appearance last March, followed by the introduction of Mega Evolutions in October. The “Mega Shine” booster pack effectively bridges these two milestones, offering a high-octane set designed for serious collectors.
A recently released teaser trailer provides a sneak peek at the treasures awaiting players. While the Mega Evolutions steal the spotlight, fans can also hunt for Shiny iterations of Dragonair, Ponyta, Pineco, and Zorua. The expansion isn’t limited to Shiny variants; it also features new additions like Phione and a stunning full-art Empoleon. Furthermore, a press release teased the arrival of “dynamic” cards, which boast a reactive holographic shimmer that shifts as the device is tilted.
While specifics regarding new Stadium or Tool cards remain scarce, the footage confirmed a new addition to the Trainer roster: Calem, the protagonist of Pokémon X and Y, will be joining the fray.
The update will also trigger a series of seasonal in-game activities. A Slowpoke-themed drop event is scheduled for April, alongside a Wonder Pick event focused on Gastly and Wigglytuff. Perhaps most notable is the upcoming Community Week, which incentivizes social interaction by rewarding players with exclusive accessories and pack hourglasses for sharing and trading cards with friends—the perfect opportunity to finally track down a Mega Ampharos ex.
Mega Shine will be available in Pokémon TCG Pocket starting March 25 at 6 p.m. PDT / 9 p.m. EDT.
