Shaboozey Says Bad Bunny Is the Perfect Pick for the Super Bowl Halftime Show

Having already built a résumé of NFL halftime appearances, Shaboozey is confident that Bad Bunny would make an outstanding headliner for next year’s Super Bowl Halftime Show.
“I think it’s fantastic,” he told Billboard while discussing a new tortoiseshell livery he helped design for a Visa Cash App Racing Bulls Formula 1 car at the United States Grand Prix. “Bad Bunny is incredible — a global superstar, an icon. He’s also an American citizen. I can’t think of a better choice.”
Shaboozey added with a smile, “Whenever one of his songs starts, the whole place goes off.”
The announcement has excited many fans but also provoked backlash from some conservative commentators. Former President Donald Trump described the selection as “absolutely ridiculous,” and ultraconservative group Turning Point USA announced plans for an “All American Halftime Show” that would focus on English-language performers.
Despite the controversy, Shaboozey argues that Bad Bunny’s presence could help the NFL broaden its global reach. He pointed to the league’s recent efforts to internationalize the game — including games and events outside the U.S. — as evidence the NFL wants to expand its audience.
“Football is beloved around the world,” he said, referencing his brother Myles Smith’s appearance at an NFL season opener in Dublin. “Why not take it further? Having an artist of Benito’s stature could bring millions more eyes to the sport.”
Shaboozey himself has remained active across NFL programming, having headlined a Thanksgiving halftime show in November and made a cameo at a Christmas Day event billed as the Beyoncé Bowl the following month.
