SEVENTEEN’s Joshua Applauds the Global Influence of ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ at the Golden Globes
Joshua, a prominent member of the K-pop powerhouse SEVENTEEN, believes the Netflix animated phenomenon KPop Demon Hunters has served as a significant catalyst for the genre’s expanding global footprint. Speaking with Billboard’s Tetris Kelly on the 2026 Golden Globes red carpet this past Sunday (Jan. 11), the performer expressed his amazement at the film’s dual success across streaming platforms and music charts.
“KPop Demon Hunters is truly unlocking new avenues for K-pop,” Joshua remarked, reflecting on the project’s cultural resonance. “I’m incredibly happy to see it happen. It’s hard to believe the project reached this magnitude of success.”
The film’s accolades are well-earned, having concluded 2025 as the most-streamed title in Netflix history. Its impact was equally felt on the charts, as the hit single “Golden” dominated the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 1 for eight weeks. The track’s momentum culminated on Sunday night when it officially clinched the Golden Globe for Best Original Song.
“It’s a dream come true to contribute to a song that empowers people of all generations to navigate their struggles and embrace their identity,” EJAE, a co-writer and the voice behind the fictional group HUNTR/X, stated during her acceptance speech. “It is never too late to radiate the brilliance you were born with.”
The award ceremony took place during a brief hiatus in SEVENTEEN’s New_ world tour. The group wrapped up 2025 with a series of high-energy performances in Japan and is slated to resume the tour in China on February 28. This global trek supports their 2025 studio effort, Happy Burstday, which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200. Adding to the group’s busy schedule, members DK and SEUNGKWAN recently unveiled their collaborative mini-album, Serenade, on January 12.
While Joshua remains dedicated to his musical path, he revealed aspirations to venture into the acting realm. He noted a particular interest in lighthearted, scripted content, saying, “I’d love to try my hand at a sitcom—specifically a comedy. That’s what I grew up watching.”
Beyond his professional ambitions, the singer shared what is currently on his “must-watch” list. Despite the widespread hype, he has yet to start the hockey-themed romance Heated Rivalry. “Countless fans have recommended it to me,” Joshua said, shortly before crossing paths with the show’s stars, Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie, backstage. “I’m definitely planning to check it out soon.”
