Sega Prepares New Sonic Franchise Releases After CrossWorlds’ Success

Following the successful release of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, Sonic Team leader Takashi Iizuka discussed the studio’s plans for future games.

He explained that the studio first prepares a roadmap of potential projects, then selects which title to develop in the coming year and allocates the necessary resources. For CrossWorlds, the team concentrated on revitalizing the franchise’s racing direction.

“We begin by mapping out Sonic’s game schedule and deciding which title should be released in which year. After that, we distribute our resources,” Iizuka said. He did not share further specifics, though the roadmap also includes titles already in development.

Sega confirmed that CrossWorlds has sold more than one million copies across PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch.
