Sandi Patty Rebukes Donald Trump Over Racist Video: ‘You Owe America an Apology’

Contemporary Christian music icon Sandi Patty is taking a firm stand against a controversial video recently shared on—and later removed from—Donald Trump’s Truth Social platform. The clip drew intense criticism for featuring a derogatory, racist animation depicting former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama.
In a poignant video shared to her Instagram, Patty addressed the former president directly. “Mr. President, my name is Sandi Patty,” she began. Identifying herself as a follower of Jesus, a registered Republican, and a proud American, she explained that she had spent a full day in quiet reflection before deciding to share her “heartfelt thoughts” on the matter.
“Mr. President, the video on Truth Social was inexcusable,” Patty stated. “You owe America, especially Black America, an apology. I’m grateful that the video has been taken down… but to be honest, it is not enough. Anyone in the free world knows that the images in that video represent the pinnacle of racial insult.”
Patty emphasized that the responsibility for the post lies solely with the former president, rejecting the idea of blaming subordinates. “The buck stops with you, sir,” she said. Citing her personal connection to the issue, she added, “My son needs you to do better. My son is a man of color, and the millions of people of color in our country need you to do better. Mr. President, we need you to set the example and do the right thing.”
A titan of the Gospel music industry, Patty’s career includes five Grammy Awards and 17 top-ten projects on the Billboard Christian charts. She is widely celebrated for her soaring vocals on classics like “More Than Wonderful” and her 1990 masterpiece, Another Time…Another Place.
Her message triggered a wave of support from the entertainment community. Rock legend Sheryl Crow commented, “Thank you for using your voice to speak truth,” while Gospel luminaries CeCe Winans, BeBe Winans, and Yolanda Adams all voiced their solidarity. Other stars, including Kristin Chenoweth, Ellie Holcomb, and Mark Lowry, also signaled their agreement with Patty’s call for accountability.
According to reports from ABC News, Trump addressed the backlash on February 6, claiming he had only viewed the beginning of the video, which he said focused on voter fraud. “I guess during the end of it, there was some kind of picture people don’t like. I wouldn’t like it either, but I didn’t see it,” he told reporters. When asked if he would apologize, he declined, stating, “No, I didn’t make a mistake.”
