Rosé Discusses New BLACKPINK Music and the Possibility of Members Leaving the Group
BLACKPINK’s Rosé recently offered an intimate look into the group’s inner workings, revealing fresh details about their forthcoming mini-album and the unwavering bond that maintains their four-member lineup.
In a candid conversation on the January 28 episode of Call Her Daddy, the Grammy-nominated artist discussed Deadline, the group’s first collective project since 2022’s Born Pink. The release follows a massive world tour and a year where JISOO, JENNIE, LISA, and Rosé focused heavily on their individual artistic identities.
“Coming back together after a year of self-discovery was incredibly interesting,” Rosé noted. “Seeing how our individual experiences influenced what we created as a group was a highlight for me. I’m genuinely thrilled with the new material.”
While the lead single “Jump” arrived in July, Rosé teased that fans should prepare for an unexpected creative pivot. “We have a major collaboration coming up,” she shared. “When I played it for my team and friends, they felt it shared the spirit of ‘Jump’ but felt completely distinct. It’s a bold, funky mixture of styles that shouldn’t work on paper, but somehow it’s perfect.”
After debuting under YG Entertainment in 2016, the quartet’s future was a major point of discussion until they officially renewed their contracts last year. When host Alex Cooper asked about the possibility of a member wanting to leave, Rosé emphasized a culture of mutual respect and autonomy.
“If any one of us reaches a point where they feel it’s no longer the right path, we are all-in on supporting that choice,” Rosé explained. “BLACKPINK is specifically these four people. We wouldn’t ignore someone’s personal needs or life decisions. We have a foundational trust that whatever choice a member makes is the right one for them.”
The interview also touched on more personal anecdotes, including a moment where Taylor Swift offered her mentorship during a social gathering. “She pulled me aside and told me to ask her anything,” Rosé recalled. She also shared a humorous story about her initial reaction to her stage name. “I actually panicked about eight hours before the announcement. At the time, I thought ‘Rosé’ sounded like a name for a grandmother. It wasn’t until I saw the stylized version on a screen that I realized it actually looked quite sophisticated.”
