Rockstar Games Has No Plans for Layoffs Following GTA 6 Launch

In an era where industry-wide layoffs and studio closures have become grimly commonplace, the current landscape of the gaming sector feels increasingly volatile. The post-pandemic correction, which saw audience engagement dip after a period of explosive growth, was perhaps unavoidable. Consequently, the true anomaly today isn’t a downsizing announcement, but rather the aggressive, large-scale recruitment strategy that Rockstar Games has steadfastly maintained for several years.

Rockstar Games Has No Plans for Layoffs Following GTA 6 Launch

On the surface, the rationale appears straightforward: the studio is deep in the development of GTA 6, arguably the most highly anticipated entertainment property in history. However, industry observers have begun to question the firm’s long-term trajectory post-launch. When confronted with these concerns, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick offered a reassuring outlook:

“We don’t see that in our company. We have a very low attrition rate at Rockstar. Take-Two’s overall attrition rate is about half that of the industry average. And we have a lot of work to do after the launch of Grand Theft Auto VI. I have no reason to believe that we’ll see any changes on composition of the team here.”

It is reasonable to infer that Rockstar’s primary post-release objective will be the deployment of a new, robust multiplayer platform designed to replicate or exceed the enduring success of GTA Online, followed by an intensive, multi-year support cycle.

Furthermore, Rockstar Games has a long-standing tradition of pivoting directly from one monumental project to the next. This raises the inevitable question: what lies on the horizon? Could we see the next chapter of Red Dead Redemption, or perhaps the long-awaited resurrection of dormant fan favorites like Bully 2?
