The future of Spiders, the Paris-based studio behind the recently launched RPG GreedFall 2: The Dying World, looks increasingly grim. Just six weeks after the title’s March release, a report from the French outlet Origami suggests that the developer is on the brink of permanent closure.
According to Origami, the studio faces total shutdown after its publisher, Nacon, failed to secure a buyer following an insolvency filing last month. Sources indicate that the court-appointed administrator overseeing Nacon’s restructuring is expected to formally petition for the liquidation of Spiders at a commercial court hearing tomorrow—a step described by the report as a mere formality.
Morale at the studio is reportedly at an all-time low. Employees are purportedly spending their time updating their portfolios and participating in self-study sessions rather than focusing on ongoing game development.
Game Informer has reached out to Spiders for an official statement and will provide updates as more information surfaces.
Our thoughts are with the talented team at Spiders and everyone impacted by these difficult circumstances.
