PSA: Major Service Outage Affecting Xbox Platforms

Microsoft’s ecosystem is currently experiencing widespread disruptions, following closely on the heels of a similar major outage that impacted the PlayStation Network. Players across the globe are reporting difficulties launching digital titles, authenticating their profiles, and navigating the digital storefront.

The first widespread anomalies surfaced late last night, July 26, at approximately 11:10 p.m. ET. According to official updates from the Xbox Live Status portal—which was most recently refreshed at 2:48 p.m. ET—engineers are still actively working to restore full functionality.

The technical difficulties impact multiple generations of hardware, including Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and legacy backward-compatible titles. The primary areas currently impacted include:

• Account & Profile: Users may encounter unexpected sign-in failures, random disconnects, or complete profile unavailability. Essential features tied to authentication—such as social interactions, applications, and the vast majority of games—remain inaccessible while signed out.
• Store & Subscriptions: Navigating the marketplace may yield incomplete results, occasionally preventing users from locating specific titles.
• Games & Gaming: Launching and playing digitally owned software has become intermittently unreliable.
• Apps & Mobile: Various streaming and utility applications may fail to initialize properly.

Fortunately, these server-side hiccups do not appear to impact every user uniformly. During initial testing for this report, accessing a Series X profile and launching a mix of natively owned titles and Xbox Game Pass selections encountered zero friction. Nevertheless, anyone planning an extended gaming session over the next few hours would be wise to monitor the situation closely.
