On July 26, the anime’s official website confirmed that KonoSuba Season 4 is officially scheduled to premiere in 2027. While this revelation brings immense relief to the fandom, it also came with a significant caveat: production is moving from Studio Drive, which handled the third season, to Studio ENGI. This transition marks the fourth distinct animation studio to helm the property. Previously, Studio Deen produced the first two television seasons, while J.C. Staff took charge of the theatrical feature KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World! Legend of Crimson.

While altering animation studios mid-run is generally viewed with caution—audiences typically prefer the visual continuity found in long-standing partnerships like MAPPA with Jujutsu Kaisen or Bones with My Hero Academia—recent history proves it isn't a death sentence. Masterpieces like Attack on Titan and Vinland Saga demonstrated that an anime can seamlessly change production teams without sacrificing overall artistic integrity.

In the case of KonoSuba, this swap is likely driven by corporate strategy: ENGI is a subsidiary of Kadokawa, the media conglomerate that holds the intellectual property rights. As Kadokawa increasingly brings its massive portfolio in-house to optimize production, handing KonoSuba—arguably ENGI's most high-profile property—to its internal subsidiary makes strategic sense. Season 4 will serve as an essential proving ground for the studio.
