Players Advised Not to Download Yakuza: Like a Dragon from PS Plus Extra if They Already Own the Essential Version

You could lose the game’s license.

PS Plus members are being advised not to download the Yakuza: Like a Dragon entry from the Extra catalog if they’ve already added the game to their account via the Essential tier.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon was offered to PS Plus Essential subscribers in August 2022. Players who added it to their PSN library at that time can keep playing as long as their Essential subscription remains active. However, those on PS Plus Extra may inadvertently overwrite that Essential license and risk losing access.

To preserve the Essential version of Yakuza: Like a Dragon, download it only from your personal library rather than from the PS Plus Extra catalog. Installing the Extra catalog version will replace the existing Essential license, and you could lose access if your Extra subscription lapses or the title is removed from the catalog.

These problems stem from how PlayStation Network handles licenses. Extra subscribers also report being unable to add certain monthly Essential-tier games to their libraries after previously accessing them via the Extra catalog. The licensing system appears to have been designed for a single PS Plus tier, and the introduction of two additional tiers has introduced friction for users.
